Friends, I want to share a Texas Observer article that truly captures my journey. Many of you know I first decided to run for the Tarrant Regional Water District board after devastating floods on our farm. I couldn’t just stand by; I had to speak up for all of us living and working near vulnerable flood zones, especially in District 5.
This piece highlights my story: the heartbreak of losing livestock, the challenges I faced bringing more accountability to our water district,
and how crucial it is to protect our residents and our most important natural resource: water. I hope it inspires more people to stay engaged in keeping our community safe.
Give it a read and let me know what you think!
The Watchdog District 5 Deserves.

In 2021, once I got elected back to TRWD, I was proven right: “Right now, it seems like we’re in such a mess, but the board really is committed to updating our policies so this does not happen again.”
With the support of my fellow board members, I'm happy to report to you that the Water District is now in a much better state of governance.
I'm not just running, I'm READY to serve District 5!

“This looks terrible,” said former Texas Rep. Lon Burnam (D)... "It doesn’t look right. The perception is horrible," said Mary Kelleher, a former water district board member who fought for better transparency.
I fought for transparency at the TRWD. It is now one of the most transparent agencies in Texas.
I fight for accountability. I fight for YOU.

In 2017, Lake Arlington neighbors opposed a wastewater injection well from nearby gas wells. We challenged the Texas Railroad Commission to say our safety comes first!

Your family’s safety isn’t up for debate. It’s my priority.

I was called a 'squeaky wheel' in 2017 when earning the FW Star-Telegram's endorsement for my reelection.
"One squeaky wheel can be good for a public board."
I'm proud of my achievements.
The TRWD's 6 Stars from the Texas Comptroller now make it one of the most transparent agencies in Texas.

Homeowners, ranchers, and property owners helped uncover nepotism and backroom deals at the TRWD. We have come a long way, and I'm proud of my achievements and friends made along the way.

10 years ago, I pointed out that building bridges over dry land before securing all sources and mixes of federal, state, and local funding wasn't the best idea. More than a decade later, Panther Island hasn't been completed. Stop paying more and getting less!

In May 2014, I was joined by three #txlege Texas State Representatives to support my efforts to bring transparency and accountability to the TRWD. Let’s Build a Future That Works for Everyone!

In 2013, fresh off WINNING the May election, I immediately rolled up my sleeves and began exposing the secrecy under which the TRWD was run. I'm Not Just Running for FW City Council -- I'm Ready to Serve.

When looking for the reasons we lost livestock and farm equipment in the 2010 flood, we found unpermitted gas roads on the North Side of the Trinity River. District 5 neighbors and I began asking uncomfortable questions...

In 2011, Peanut the Pig was euthanized by FW Animal Control. Please keep your pets collared and microchipped! #animalwelfare #animallover

In 2010, Forrest Wilder of the Texas Observer wrote about my initial involvement in Fort Worth policy advocacy. I fought hard against unfair practices that uncovered pipelines and bad recordkeeping by authorities ultimately led to the tragic 2010 flooding that damaged many farms and homes on the Trinity River, including mine. District 5 is My Home, My Heart and My Future.
